Up to Namche
Second day oscar mike, and the rain that has fallen all night decided to persist into the morning. The general rule of the mountain is clear skies in the morning, clouds and light rain in the evening. I'm so happy I bought an umbrella in Lukla. The team is giving me a hard time but I know they're secretly jealous.
The team is starting to bond — more conversation on the trail and banter around the dinner table. The ice-cracking moment came when our leader Balram, in total sincerity, offered help to us all whenever we need it: 'I am here to help, if you need me, come to my tent. 24 hours.' Almost in unison the seven of us responded, 'Which tent is yours?'
A short day today — 6km but a lot of vertical, finishing at 3,400m, where you start to feel the elevation. Speaking of which, I crossed the tallest suspension bridge I've ever seen, built high above the original after monsoon erosion. We'll spend the afternoon in town buying last-minute supplies and souvenirs. Feeling good and optimistic. Hoping for a rain-free day tomorrow for the acclimation walk.
